Caring for the Lonely & Disconnected
Come and hear how to care for those suffering from loneliness & disconnection. For those who are suffering, come and hear from Scripture how God lovingly created us for relationship and community.
In 2018, Australian Psychological Society and Swinburne University released a comprehensive report on loneliness in Australia. The findings reveal one in four Australians feel lonely, three or more days every week.
One in three Australians never or rarely feel a part of a group of friends.
One in two Australians feel lonely at least one day per week.
Reported loneliness is more common among young adults, aged 18-25.
Lonely Australians have worse physical and mental health and are more likely to be depressed.
Professionals called it a “loneliness epidemic”.
These statistics were taken before COVID-19 changed the way we live. Among many other things, the impact of COVID-19 has seen Australians need to retreat and maintain social distancing. The loneliness epidemic met a global pandemic.
Now more than ever, we must take time to consider how we can care for one another, connect with the disconnected and combat loneliness together.
In this one-hour session we will hear from School Counsellor Mairead Brannigan on practical ways to care for one another. Senior Pastor Leon Stead will also share a Biblical perspective on loneliness and God’s plan for redemption. The session will finish with an open Q&A time.
This is an open community event – anyone is welcome.
